Spring Break...BIRDS!!

Yeah, yeah…it’s been a while. I have managed to take ZERO pictures this week. Spring break was pretty uneventful; mostly me doing homework while the kiddos played. We managed to get out and about a little—a trip to Savannah with Mama, a trip to the park to play, then another one with Papa—and (gulp) THE BEACH. Only I could have drama during a relaxing day at the beach, sans camera of course…so there is no documentation of this tale; it is doomed to be a legend. Let me assure you…I AM NOT EXAGGERATING!! It really happened…and you should know by now I can’t make this stuff up.

I was determined to get the girls to the beach at least once during the week. Friday was a pretty nice day, so off we went. Jamie Crews had talked me into reading the Twilight books (I know, I know) so I was perfectly content to let the girls play in the sand while I did some reading. We have been to the beach TONS of times…it’s their favorite place in the world. I had snacks, buckets and shovels, my chair, and my book—absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Like I said, we’ve done this many times. There were a lot of people at Jekyll for Easter, so the beach was pretty full for early April. There were tons of seagulls near the water, and a group of kids playing in them, running back and forth. Bailey and Emi were dying to join in, and I advised against it. After we had been there only about an hour and a half, the girls were hungry, so they went for the Cheetos. That was the beginning of the end. Here came the seagulls…about 30 of them. Let me state, for the record, that neither of the girls have ever made even the slightest comment about being afraid of seagulls. They were chillin’ on the beach, enjoying their snack, and I was engrossed in my book when the most horrifying scream I have ever heard in my life ripped through me like electricity. It took me a second to realize that the sound (feedback is the only thing I can compare it to) was coming from Bailey. Her face had the most terrifying expression on it, and she was sort of running in place. I looked up to notice all those seagulls in close proximity, several of which were hovering at eye level. One must have been particularly menacing….because I have NEVER seen Bailey act that way…and she’s a big ole’ chicken. Before I could process what was happening she was in my lap in a ball screaming “take me home, take me home, take me hooooooome. I’m scared, I’m scared, I’m scaaaaaaaaared.” She sounded like the cowardly lion. Oddly enough…the menacing, hovering gull had only one leg, which made him more terrifying. Now remember I said the only thing I could compare it to was feedback? Welllllllll….I looked around to notice that everyone in what seemed like a half mile radius was looking. RETREAT!!! I shudder to even think of it. This same scenario went on for a good 10 minutes or so, because I could not peel her off of me enough to stand up. Emi was fine for the most part…but suddenly she pulled the same stunt. Again, she landed on me, screaming, on top of Bailey. I have never been so mortified in my life. Note to self: Bailey is afraid of seagulls………

The only pic I took...with my phone
